Communication Essential as Engineer what i deal with it
This scene was common in my workplace
Before releasing the application, your client asks to add/ change new features.
You have to meet your deadline.
How do you handle this issue?
Here is my action plan:
Listen to my client. Repeat what they mentioned.
Clarify that I have understood.
Don’t comment immediately and defer to a later time.
“Let me think about it and get back to you”
- Simple Signals: Listening
- Say more about that.
- What's going on?
- What do you think?
- How are things?
- Repeat what they mentioned.
- Paraphrasing: Just clarifying that we have understood. It helps to clarify
- So, For you, It’s important that…
- So you think that we should do it this way and …..
- So it looks like you’ll be working on __ I’ll be doing__. How does that sound?
- So, you would like to see __. Is that right?
- Statement of intention :
- So that ___. May I ask a couple of questions to clarify what is needed in the report?
- So that __by _date_. Please let me know how you would like to divide up the tasks?
- Notice Suggest:
- I’m noticing some crosstalk, and I’m not able to hear all the great ideas. Can we be sure that one person speaks at a time?
- So that we can capture all the information. Can I suggest that we write these ideas on the board?
- I’m noticing that we are spending a lot of time on this topic. What do we want to do about the rest of the agenda?
- Trip for contributing:
- Be concise and not repetitive
- Provide concrete examples of past experience with the situation.
- Say a story: Challenge-->Action-->Result
- Decline to comment and defer to later time
- let me think about it and get back to you
- Before the meeting, ask your more senior colleagues
- What they want you to cover
- How they want you to participate
I took Communication Essential class at Nova job center in Sunnyvale. It is really helpful.
